Rogers pulls HTC Dream from shelves for urgent emergency call fix asks customers to disable GPS
Some of you Rogers subscribers have probably already taken your carrier up on its offer to upgrade your Dream to a Magic, but if not, pay very close attention here: calling 911 doesn’t work right now without making some changes.

Basically, there’s an issue that prevents emergency calls from being completed if location-based services are enabled, which means you’ve got to head into Settings and disable GPS — not an optimal solution by any stretch of the imagination. Rogers and HTC are said to be working on a patch as we speak, but in the meantime, don’t expect to waltz into a Rogers store and pick up one of these bad boys.

The Roges HTC Dream is not having a good start to 2010, actually the Dream is turning into a bit of a nightmare. First the beloved Android was informed that it would not receive an upgrade to a new OS and stay exactly how it is… Dream owners didn’t like this news and decided to revolt. Rogers heard the feedback and said Dream customers canupgrade to a Magic if they wish.
However, news came early this morning from Rogers that the HTC Dream has been pulled off the shelf from all locations and online. The reason is because an urgent software fix that is needed for 911 calls to be completed. Kinda important. All Dream owners were contacted by text message about the issue. Here’s the info we received:
“I’m writing to share some urgent news with our Rogers HTC Dream customers.

We have contacted all of our Dream customers by text message asking them to disable GPS location on their HTC Dream device to ensure all 911 calls complete.
HTC is expediting a software fix to the 1.5 Android Operating System that will address this issue – and provide several other improvements to the OS.
We expect this upgrade to be available very soon. In the meantime, Dream customers need to follow these steps:
1) Select Menu
2) Select Settings
3) Select Location
4) Uncheck Enable GPS Satellite
Please note that the Rogers HTC Dream is the only device affected.

Protecting our customers’ safety is our top priority and we communicated with our customers as soon as we were made aware of the issue. We have texted all affected customers and we have immediately requested that the device be taken off the shelf until HTC implements its upgrade.”
