LG Apollo, HTC Obsession to be among the first Windows Mobile 7 phones
Microsoft still hasn’t announced anything about Windows Mobile 7, but new rumors are flying around.

According to WM Experts, Microsoft plans to launch two versions of Windows Mobile 7, reportedly called Windows Phone Seven Business Edition (BE) and Windows Phone Seven Media Edition (ME).
Obviously targeted at business users, Windows Phone Seven Business Edition (BE) is a “stripped down” version of the new OS, and OEMs will be able to easily customize it. It should feature advanced syncing capabilities (with PCs and other devices) and provide multiple user access.
Unlike the Business Edition, Windows Phone Seven Media Edition (ME) will be Microsoft’s “breakthrough” OS, possibly featuring HD video,Zune integration, TV streaming and support for Silverlight, Mediaroom, XBox Live, and social networking sites (Facebook, Twtter and so on).
It’s said that Windows Phone Seven Media Edition is “very dynamic at this point”, although it’s still far from being complete – with the first devices based on it possibly coming in 2011.

Microsoft is also readying a cloud-based assisted GPS system called Orion, which will significantly increase the GPS performance on all Windows Phone Seven handsets.
On the Windows Phone Seven hardware side, the unannounced (and unseen – there’s no photo of it) LG Apollo might be launched sometime in August or September this year, via both Verizon and Sprint. It may be the very first WM7 device on the market – kinda weird for it to come from LG, after the company’s president of mobile division said about Windows Mobile that it’s “unqualified”. Anyway, the LG Apollo’s specs should include:
- 3.8-inch capacitive AMOLED multitouch display with WXGA resolution (1280 x 720 pixels)
- CDMA / EV-DO and GSM / HSDPA connectivity
- Wi-Fi
- Qualcomm CPU at 1.3GHz
- 1GB of RAM, 1GB of ROM
- 10MP autofocus camera with flash and HD 720p video recording
- 115 x 57.5 x 11.2 mm
There’s also the HTC Obsession, which should hit T-Mobile in October 2010. The Obsession is like a “slightly smaller HD2” that might integrate HTC’s Sense UI with WM7 and feature the following:
- 3.7 inch capacitive AMOLED multitouch display
- HSDPA
- Wi-Fi
- 5MP autofocus camera with flash and HD video recording
- Qualcomm CPU at 1GHz
- 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM
- 4GB of internal memory
Hopefully, we’ll hear more about Windows Phone Seven Business Edition and Windows Phone Seven Media Edition at MWC 2010 – although, according to recent rumors, Microsoft will only announceWindows Mobile 6.6 there.
